Hey Friends, if you’ve not subscribed till now and want to become a patron of this newsletter then you can do right away before diving into this week’s ‘SUNDAY REATZO’.
Traditional leadership models that overly on certainty and control are becoming increasingly ineffective. The complexity and pace of our modern world demand a kind of different leadership. By different I mean the one that embraces uncertainty rather than fighting against it. So the most important question is - Do leaders have an ability to transform uncertainty into a meaningful discovery, or something they can identify to find confirm directionality of overall purpose in hand.
Transforming Uncertainty Into A Meaningful Discovery
Leading like a scientist begins with a fundamentally different relationship with uncertainty. Traditionally leaders view uncertainty as a threat whereas research indicate that people /teams or groups that openly acknowledge, what they don’t know, consistently outperform those who are projecting false confidence.
In other words, it’s an experimental mindset to find a concrete solution which essentially means approaching problems with curiosity rather than anxiety. Remember, when Scientist face an unexpected results, they don’t rush to blame someone or hide the outcome. Instead, they lean in with genuine interest: - “ Oh…That’s interesting…, I didn't see it that way ?..We did not predict this outcome or the result are not meeting my aim or what can we learn from this?, And what we need to do next?”. These are some pertinent questions ⁉️ which will energies and inspire the environment. This is the most important lesson in leadership we can learn to adopt in our traditionally taught leadership style.
Similarly, this mindset can transform, how we collaborate. It helps us to create an environment where people actually test their assumptions and engage in what researchers call humble inquiry wherein you ask genuine questions rather than providing ready-made answers. However, for this to work, it requires updating our definition of success from achieving a desired outcome to learning something new. It doesn't affect the outcome per se but this perspective transforms the paralysing fear of being wrong into an intellectual adventure, where uncertainty is a doorway to insights.
Leadership in the face of uncertainty isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about asking better or critical questions and inspire people to find their answers.
